Rider and Bike Selection

After clicking Play on the Main Menu, you may select one of five Honda Element riders, as well as the color of the "Scrap" bike model, manufactured by the Kona Bike Company.  Click Back to return to the Main Menu or click Next to start the race.

Starting the Race

Your chosen rider will be lined up at the starting gate at the top of the track alongside your five competitors.  You will hear three beeps -- and then the race begins!

In-Game HUD

The following HUD elements appear on the game screen.

Clock

The Clock shows your running time during the race and will keep ticking even if you crash.  (If you crash, your rider will be reset on the track near the crash location to continue the race.)

Position Indicator

Check this indicator to see your position in the race.  You will race against five competitors.

Track Maps

The Track Map displays the start (top of the map) and finish lines, as well as the location of all the riders on the track. The white dot with a red edge is your rider; the smaller blue dots are your competitors.

Boost Meter

You may earn up to 6 speed boosts at one time, each represented by one lightning bolt in the Speed Boost Meter.  In addition, Honda Element and Trick icons will appear under the Speed Boost Meter to indicate which type of boost you earned.

Jump Meter

The Jump Meter represents the power of your jump.  The longer you hold down the spacebar in preparation for your jump, the higher the jump will be.  You will jump the highest when the Jump Meter is full.

Obstacles and Jumps

To jump over small obstacles on the track such as logs, tap the spacebar.  To jump over large obstacles, such as boulders, press and hold the spacebar.  The longer you hold down the spacebar, the higher you will jump when you release the spacebar.  Note:  Jumping does not slow down the bike.

Tricks

During the race, you can perform tricks while riding off cliffs and drop-offs, using the following key controls:

UP Arrow (or W Key)

Backward flip

DOWN Arrow (or S Key)

Forward flip

RIGHT Arrow (or D Key)

360 degree spin to the right

LEFT Arrow (or A Key)

360 degree spin to the left

You must complete at least a full 360 degree spin or flip AND land the jump without crashing to get an extra boost of speed for your rider.

Speed Boosts

There are two ways to earn speed boosts to help your rider get to the finish line faster:

Honda Element Icons:  Drive through the glowing Honda Element icons placed along the track to give your rider a brief burst of extra speed.

Tricks and Hang Time:  Each time you successfully complete a trick and land it without crashing -- or you get good hang time off a jump -- your rider will receive a boost of speed.

You can earn up to 6 speed boosts (represented in the the Speed Boost Meter) in sequence by combining Honda Element icons with a series of tricks and good air time during the same jump. (Example:  Collecting one Honda Element icon and performing two 360 degree spins in a row with good hang time will give you 8 seconds of extra speed – i.e. 4 boosts x 2 seconds).  The Honda Element icon and/or the Trick icon (above) will appear next to the Speed Boost Meter to indicate which kind of speed boost you received.

End Game

The race ends as soon as your rider crosses the finish line.  The Race Results Screen will display your finishing position and time in comparison with the other riders.  The following options appear:
